Gusty Wind Characteristics:

The wind often gets gusty and inconsistent and wind conditions can go from totally overpowered to marginal in just a few seconds. Wainman have made sure the Rabbit can handle such situations quite well. The design of the Rabbit is calculated to allow it to depower with just a short move of the bar. This, along with great low-end power and the famous Rabbit swing provides a rider with the momentum necessary to handle lulls between gusts.

 

Waveriding:
Surfing with a kite is one of the most amazing feelings to be had and when the right conditions occur at your spot, you want to be equipped to seize the moment to its fullest. The Rabbit has great turning ability, and reacts directly to your inputs, so you can choose where on a wave you want to be instead of it choosing for you. When rigged to the FAST setting on the front bridle (RABBIT TUNE-UP SYSTEM) it flies downwind by itself so all downwind wave turns can be done with the kite in a right position. Bombproof construction and solid LE gives this kite the best chance possible of surviving contact with rough water.

 

Jumping:
No matter if you can already throw the best tricks or just achieving your first small jumps, what matters is the feeling! The key is the sensation of flight. When it is really windy, not everyone has the confidence to even try. With the Wainman Rabbit it is different! Quick Turning:
To perform well in waves and have power to spare for jumps, a kite should turn quickly but it also has to be stable on course and very predictable. Both beginners and advanced riders really appreciate such combination for their needs. By turning quickly the Rabbit creates a beautiful extra pop that can pull you out of the water like being shot out of a cannon. And for those who want a bit slower steering when the wind picks up, the Rabbit can be slowed down by easily changing the position of the back lines to the SLOW position on the kite tip (RABBIT TUNE-UP SYSTEM).

Whether you want to shred more waves, get more jumps, or just enjoy a great day of free riding, you want the ability to come back upwind fast. The Wainman Rabbit was designed to never let you down!. Direct Feeling:

Power Control:
Rabbits are a powerful kite for their size, but their energy can be controlled very well and even shut down immediately when needed. Instant and quick depower is a great skill of this kite, and as soon as the rider lets go of the bar, the pull of the Rabbit stops. All Rabbits, should be used with the original Rabbit Control Bar that was designed very precisely to match the characteristics of these kites. Together, they work precisely and provide a very wide range of depower with no stopper balls or other complicated features. Pure simplicity that let’s you explore your limits with confidence.

 

Automatic Relaunch:
In order to provide maximum comfort and confidence, all Rabbits relaunch almost automatically. Because of their round shape, when they fall in the water, Rabbit kites have the tendency to land on their sides and travel to the edge of the window, relaunching with very little effort from the pilot. In the event that the kite crashes and submerges the leading edge, a firm pull by the pilot on one of the back lines will turn the Rabbit around where it will re-launch again, without swimming to it! The Rabbit control bar is equipped with specially coated back lines / leader lines with relaunch balls that make the process very fast and easy on the hands.

 

Rabbit Tune-Up System:
By their definition, Wainman Rabbits are all-round wake style kites. But as every kiteboarder has his own style, it is important to tune-up the kite to accommodate your unique preferences. Some riders prefer firmer pressure on the bar, some need to have more vertical lift, and some would appreciate downwind sailing more than hang time.

Accommodating those differences is very easy with the Rabbit Tune-Up System. Every rider can have full influence on how their Rabbit is going to act. These options make it great for every type of rider no matter what type of kite you might own now, set it to your current feel and performance but go bigger, quicker and higher than ever before!

 

A good ride always starts with the right kite for the conditions. Depending on the wind force you have to trim your kite differently. Finding the right trim settings will allow you to ride with a good body position where you feel natural and confident. 3 settings on the front lines (Fast, Medium, Slow), and the three settings on the back lines (Fast, Medium, Slow) give you so many options for what you want to do on the day!

• Putting the Front lines to SLOW and the back lines to FAST are perfect for every day riding.
• For Learning loops (Less Punishment), Set both the Front and Back Lines to FAST.
• For Freestyle Loops, Set both front and back to MEDIUM.
• For Big Boosting, set the front lines to SLOW and the Back lines to FAST.
• For Waves, set both front and back to FAST. This gives the least bar pressure so that you can ride unhooked with one hand.
• For megaloops, set the front lines to SLOW and the back lines to MEDIUM
• For pure wake style...set both front and back to SLOW.

Single Front Lines Option:
If you prefer a more direct feel, you can utilize the bridle removal option. Included with every Rabbit is a specially reinforced, single tow point for the front lines. In the kite repair kit, you can find a set of a pre-lines that need to be mounted on a SINGLE point attachment, after removing the V-bridle from the kite. This set-up changes the feel of the kite making it more radical and direct, showing its relationship to the C-kites.

Construction

Wainman Rabbit 2010 Construction:
3-Strut Framework Rabbits have a 3-strut Construction and that makes them really different from other kites. They are faster, more responsive, and lighter-weight but also very solid and powerful due to their high quality, heavy-cloth framework.
Fabrics and Stitching: To be the best, Rabbits are built using only the highest quality fabrics. The canopy of the kite is made with very light and super durable rip-stop SPI cloth from Teijin, Japan – world undisputed leader in production of high performance rip-stop fabrics.   Framework construction panels, such as leading edge, struts and tips, are built with polyester heavy cloth made by Dimension Polyant, in Germany. No other material in the modern wind-industry is so durable, stiff and basically bulletproof, yet still very light and long-lasting.   Using only certified threads and master sewing techniques create very strong but flexible construction to survive the windiest gales and storms.
Reinforcements: To protect seams against hard contacts, Rabbits are equipped with multiple reinforcements at the leading edge and tips.
Tow Points: Attachment points on Rabbits are well engineered so when the strongest gusts hit the canopy, nothing will get damaged. With triple layer sandwich construction and extra strength polyester webbing, the rider can be sure the attachment points on Rabbits are very solid.
Inflation: With only 3 struts to inflate, you will be out on the water in no time! The struts are equipped with sensitive locking valves that will keep constant pressure inside of the strut bladders. For deflation, each valve has its deflating stick put inside of the valve for strut deflation. The Leading Edge is equipped with a locking valve for inflation and a big dump valve for fast kite packing.   RABBITS are designed to be inflated firmly which allows them to show their real nature.

Depower Control Bar

Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will all gain substantial advantages from the new Wainman Hawaii 2010 Rabbit Control Bar System. Rabbits are a powerful kite for their size, but their energy can be controlled very well and even shut down immediately when needed.

Instant and quick depower is a great skill of this kite, and as soon as the rider lets go of the bar, the pull of the Rabbit stops. Like all Rabbits, they should be used with the original Rabbit Control Bar that was designed very precisely to match the characteristics of these kites. Together, they work precisely and provide a very wide range of depower with no stopper balls or other complicated features. Pure simplicity that let’s you explore your limits with confidence.   Wainman Hawaii Rabbit Control Bar Features:   Chicken Loops: Wainman Hawaii provide two chicken loops, one for hooked riding with the loop lock to avoid unhooking accidentally and another for easy unhooking for freestyle and wave riding.   Control Bar Quick Release: Molded quick release makes it super simple to open and just as easy to reassemble. The quick release is very simple to perform. Just hold it and push it away from you. To re-assemble, pass the webbing through the ring, fold it and cover it with the quick release. Handle Pass Leash / Quick Release: The handle pass leash can be also be used as a front line leash. You can always release it by pushing away the little red tube. Use the same process for quick release on the leash. Hold it and push it away from you when you want to release.   Control Bar: The control bar is made of 50% carbon-fibre and 50% fibreglass, which makes it really strong, even with its fairly small diameter. It will be perfect for beginners and expert riders alike who want a narrow bar for handle pass manoeuvres.   Centre Line Depower Rope: The rope used for the centre line is a 5mm Dyneema rope with a PU tube to cover it and protect it.   Stopperball: The stopper ball is adjustable, if you don't like as much length on the centre line and want to reduce the de-power, then you can open the screw, slide the ball down and re-tighten.   Clam cleat / Magic Velcro: The most accurate adjustment system, and also the easiest one. The Velcro will help you to keep the extra adjustment rope from flying around and bothering you.   Safety red balls / Swivel: In case of emergency, or if you just want to land your kite alone: you can grab the loop behind the red ball, and activate the quick release. The front line will slide through the ring above the swivel, killing all the power of the kite. The swivel allows you to always keep your front lines from twisting, which allows the safety balls to work properly. Wash it before and after your kite session. Re-launch balls: The Rabbit re-launches by pulling one of the back lines when the kite falls and the leading edge is on the water. The re-launch will be easier when you grab the re-launch ball and pull it towards you.   Control Bar Floats: The Floaters cover the back lines, which is then covered by PVC tubing. This will provide durability for your lines, and reduce the risk of tangling back lines around the bar ends in re-launching situations.   Control Bar Ends: The end of the bar is smooth, providing a good feeling when steering. It also gives you all the space needed to roll up your lines and has a bungee inside to lock the lines onto the bar.     Wainman Hawaii Rabbit Control Bar Safety Settings:   Depending on your level or preferences, you may also want a different level of safety, enabling a different level of freedom for your riding. The Wainman Rabbit Control Bar delivers!   Safety Set-Up: For a rider learning to kite or anyone who believes safety is paramount, you can connect to one of the front lines and your harness in case of emergency. When you release the quick release, your kite will lose all its power, and will stay connected to you with one front line. If you use the Rabbit in it's appropriate wind range, there is so much depower you should always be safe.   Unhooked Set-Up: For those who want to ride unhooked, Wainman add a little ring below your chicken loop where you can attach your leash. This simple setting, allows you to unhook, let go of your bar yet stay connected to the kite with minimum power. This system is typically called a suicide leash, but it is no longer a suicide with the rabbit, as de-power is almost complete.   Double Depower Set-Up: For some riders, the big depower of the Rabbit is maybe too much for regular riding. Moving the upper ball down will progressively reduce the depower ability. In this case, if you connect the leash direct to the chicken loop, you won’t have as much depower.   If you still want all depower when you let go the bar, you can connect the red safety line (provided in the bag) below the swivel, pass it through the bar, and through the ring below the chicken loop, and connect it to your leash.

Firstly I will explain my kiting background. I have been kiting for about 5 years, mainly on the land and snow, but also quite a bit on the water. I initially learnt on inflatable kites, but as a landboarder, I have stuck with foil kites until now!

On a recent trip to Borocay, Phillipines, I had the chance to try a range of LEI's and the Wainman Rabbit stood out from the rest!

 

Packaging is very detailed with high quality construction. Moreover, both bar and kite look indestructible in construction. Setting up was no problem as it only has 3 struts!

 

One of the first things that hit me when flying was the solid stability even in gusty inland winds. I instantly noticed the very smooth power delivery.

 

Depower is enormous. The Wainman Rabbit will happily sit at 12 o'clock with the bar fully pushed out.

 

Turning is fast for an LEI and much faster that the foil kites and the bar pressure has a very direct feel.

 

In summary - the Wainman offers massive dollops of fun! It is a well thought out kite and I am very, very pleased with my purchase!
