North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEINorth EVO Progression Q:

Progression Q defines North's progressive commitment to quality, innovation and premiu products.

North's design and engineer visionaries are blended with premium technology and the latest production techniques, ensuring that their brand remains one step ahead of the rest.

Kiteboarding is a way of life, and for North a kite is more than just a kite; it’s a statement and a reflection of your inner style. For more than 10 years, their innovative breakthrough in materials and technical design has allowed them to remain one of the leading brands of the industry. North believe there’s no substitute for anything other than high performance and premium quality products.

Their evolutionary systems are a result of our ingenious in-house designers and research and development team, and consider their technological advancements as key contributors to the growth and safety of the sport.

There are 3 aspects to this approach that complement each other and have to work together seamlessly:

1. Materials and Hardware
2. Employees and productions techniques
3. Construction Details and Design

Technoforce D2 Canopy:
Teijin is the world’s leading supplier for polyester fabrics and sail materials for all kinds of marine sports. North use the remarkably durable Teijin Dacron for our leading edge, struts, wingtips and wherever high tension or an applied load is found. Technoforce D2 is used for North's canopy. Technoforce D2 was an exclusive coating development for North Kiteboarding, which has proven its superiority in durability and dynamics since we started using it.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable Kiteboarding Kite

Glued Zig-Zag Stitches:

Every single seam is stitched with a zigzag sewing technique. They are first glued then stitched. The result is a clean, good-looking and highly durable stitch, which supports the overall stability of the kite.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Air Port Valve:
For 2016 all kites are equipped with the completely redesigned Airport Valve II.

The valve works with any conventional pump or compressor as it can be connected directly to the bayonet insert of the hose. The valve is suitable for both, inflation and deflation. The deflation option is integrated, which means no external deflation pin is required. Deflation is simply activated by turning the blue wheel on the inside of the valve completely to the right.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Computerised Cutting:
Computerized cutting ensures millimetre precise working pieces, a minimum of waste and a maximum of efficiency of the cutting process itself. This way the high expectations of our two kite designers can be met to their full satisfaction.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Abrasion Reinforcement:
All areas exposed to scuffing strengthened with STPU reinforcements, renowned for its durability against abrasion.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Fusion Strut:

This construction allows for a controlled distribution of forces between strut and leading edge. Struts are 100% connected to the leading edge with a flexible Dyneema line, which promotes higher canopy tension and a clean profile.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Computer Sewing:
All critical seams are done with computer supported sewing machines. This avoids human mistakes and inconsistencies, increases the productivity and reduces waste from cut off materials; it is the only way to create a perfect and consistent result every time.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
TQM Method :
A detailed quality control system has been developed, controlling every step starting with the delivery of raw materials to the factory and ending with the final delivery of kites to our customers. In between, every single stage is optimized to the smallest detail. The quality check card is the key to keeping precise control over the process for every individual kite at every stage.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Kook-Proof Connectors:
The kook proof line connection points prevent accidents by guaranteeing that you cannot accidentally connect your lines incorrectly when rigging your kite.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Self Rescue Handles:
The self-rescue handles on the inside of the wingtips can be easily found in case of an offshore break down. They provide a good, comfortable grip while sailing back to the shore during a self-rescue manoeuvre.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Anti Snag: The Anti Snag webbing prevents the lines from tangling around the tip of the kite. Waterstarts are made easier and safety is increased.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Zipperless Struts :
A strut without zippers means less weight, and results in smoother flying characteristics and increased durability. These advantages outweigh the slightly more tedious process required when changing a strut bladder.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Lines by Teufelberger:
Teufelberger is a leading supplier for ropes, ranging from climbing, sailing and paragliding to specialized ropes for kitesurfing. North Kiteboarding uses Teufelberger products for lines and bridles.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Polyurethane Bladders:
All bladders are produced of high quality Polyurethane. This material is known for its high elasticity in different temperatures and resistance to pressure. The modern welding technique ensures durable seams and binds the material together perfectly.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI

Load Distribution Panels:
As kite geometry improves, the canopy must continue to resist increasing forces. To spread these forces, Load-Distribution-Panels are used, holding the kite’s shape even under the most extreme loads. In practice this gives a smoother and more consistent performance from the kite in any riding situation.

North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam:
The leading edges of all kites are extremely durable due to a special heavy duty closing seam. The Dacron material at the leading edge is reinforced with a self sticky Insignia Tape and double stitched additionally. The Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam is resistant to very high tensions and diagonal forces.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Double-V Pigtails :
These pigtails distribute the load of the line connections to the kite, minimizing the risk of fatigue, making the kite less prone to distortion and helps it to steer more smoothly.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Trailing Edge Reinforcements:
The Trailing Edge Force Control is responsible for the smooth power distribution between the different materials of the kite, forcing the tensions in the right directions. Since 2013 the waves are higher and wider to eliminate stress points between the Dacron Trailing Edge and the D2 Canopy material. This change in construction reduces fluttering marks and ensures that the material is not wearing out.
North Dice 2016 Water Relaunchable LEI
Lazy Pump:
The North Kiteboarding Lazy Pump system enables the inflation of the kite from just one valve. Clips close off struts from leading edge to prevent unwanted airflow in case of damage or simply to only deflate the leading edge

User Rating:

The North Evo 2016 is the ultimate all round kite in the North Kiteboarding range and a completely new interpretation of a freestyle/freeride kite. The Evo is at home no matter what the conditions. The kite can be flown on 4 or 5 lines and feels like an easy to use C-Shaped kite in terms of its handling. It has a smooth predictable nature and direct and responsive turning characteristics.

For those looking to ride unhooked every now and again, it has just the right amount of freestyle performance you’re looking for and when riding waves, you’ll be surprised by the turing and drift. Delivering a precise and direct feel with power, whatever your style you’ll feel right at home with the Evo.

The hangtime and lift delivered when jumping is impressive, the kite really accelerates through the window to generate huge amounts of power and lift, perfect for oldschool manoeuvres. Kiteloops feel extremely smooth, the Evo catches the rider gently after the loop. It is exceedingly stable in the air, making it great for freestyle and waves too. Hooked or unhooked the Evo responds perfectly to rider input on the bar in a predictable manner. Due to the 5 struts, the Evo is stable even in biggest gusts or steering mistakes.

If you don’t want to be tied down to a certain style of riding, you need a kite that can deliver on all levels, the Evo is that kite.

Alongside the new panel layout, North have changed the canopy tension settings and used the fusion strut constructions to increase the liveliness of the kite. As a crossover kite that performs as well in the surf as it does for unhooking and throwing the latest new-school tricks. Smooth, predictable power delivery and steady C-like bar feel invite you to unhook and push your newschool moves to the next level, throw massive kite loops or boost big airs.

The Evo also offers excellent depower ability and quick, predictable turning and drift, ideal for the more surf-minded kiters. Whatever the day brings, you will always be prepared to take advantage of the conditions. Whether you're into stomping freestyle tricks, shredding waves, jumping, cruising or all of the above, the Evo´s got you covered.

The kite has a smooth, predictable feel that riders fall in love with, the power delivery is progressive and the kite feels more like a C-kite than the delta hybrid that it is. This year the Evo incorporates the new adaptive tips and also a streamline strut system, these new struts allow North to control the flow of air over the kite much better. This means North can improve the kites turning speed and responsiveness and reward the rider with a much more lively feeling kite. The larger sizes have a fuller profile and this gives them a much better low end range.

Precise kite loops allow you to throw every variation of kite loop to your heart’s content. Amazing low-end power gets you up and riding in light wind and the auto re-launch lets you go for broke without a second thought of getting your kite back up; Simply let go of the bar and the kite will do the work for you!

New relaunch bungees prevent any lines from snagging on the wingtips during re-launch and construction details have been improved to prevent wear and tear. The Evo can be ridden on 4 or 5 lines depending on your preference. The Evo is easier than ever. EVO Epic!

The Evo can be flown with 4 lines or 5 giving the rider the choice to ride the kite however they desire. Depower is excellent, while the turning is direct and responsive allowing the rider to instinctively feel where the kite is in the window.Hooked in, unhooked, freeride, freestyle, small waves, monster swells, strapped or unstrapped the Evo is your ticket to ride!

The new profile for the North EVO 2016 is more powerful and has improved the upwind ability with added low wind riding in the larger sizes. Now complete with the Lazy Pump system.

Impressive light wind ability, enormous range, forgiving flying characteristics and easy bar feeling are just some of the unique features of the new North EVO 2016. Continuous EVOlution!

North Evo 4 / 5 Line control:

The North Evo 2016 can be ridden on 4 or 5 line control bars, uniting new-school and free-ride in one kite. The Evo‘s delta shape offers great sheet and-go riding, excellent wind range and high de-power.

The overall shape helps the Evo turn quickly and predictably while the new bridle geometry stabilizes the arc for a soft, consistent bar feel and extreme back-stall resistance.

The 4-line mode boasts an innovative new safety system and bar-feel prefect for those who prefer soft, easy handling.

In 5-line mode the 5th Element additionally stabilizes the arc, providing very direct bar-feel for new-school riding and the ultimate 5th line safety.

Auto re-launch means that you can go for it and never have to worry about re-launchng your kite. Just take your hands off the bar and let the kite do the work for you!

Streamline Struts:

This year the North Kite Design incorporates a new strut concept, which combines the responsive turning and softer feel of three strut kites with the superior stability of a classic 5-strut design. The front sections of the struts feature an increased diameter towards the leading edge and then taper towards the trailing edge of the kite. This radically reduced diameter leads to more flexibility, while the front part of the struts remains super stiff and strong for great stability. The flexible back section of the strut allows the kite to twist over the entire profile when sheeting in and out. As a direct result, the kite is able to generate better low end and more responsive turning.

North Adaptive Tips:

For 2016 the EVO features the new “Adaptive Tip”. In recent years, there has been a trend leaning towards more reactive kites with even lighter sheeting forces than in the past. Such kites are really comfortable, lively for wave riding and offer more forgiving kite loops because they pivot around the wingtip. However, comparison tests have shown that North team riders and testers actually prefer kites with a harder bar feel because they offer better feedback, precise steering and more dynamic turning, which in turn creates more power.

The new “Adaptive Tip” allows users to easily change the sheeting force and turning performance through a simple back pigtail adjustment, allowing you to customize your kite to your desired style and feel:

North EVO 2014 Water Relaunchable LEI

North EVO 2014 Water Relaunchable LEI

The North Evo 2016 is built tough to take some thrashings and the new connection between strut and leading edge easily withstands the high loads of the delta shape.

The North Evo's precise steering response always delivers predictable and controlled jumps even if your take-off is not perfect.

The innovative Bridge Profile geometry optimizes airflow and gets you up and planing in extremely light air even when the Evo is fully over-sheeted.

This profile balances the load distribution around the leading edge which prevents the Evo from ever back-stalling and is the key to it's acceleration in light wind.

With its simple bridle configuration the Evo can be used with a four-line bar or with the North 5th Element Control Bar.

In 4-Line mode the Evo is ideal for everyone who favours easy water relaunch and simple handling, while the 5th Element mode additionally stabilizes the kite for optimized performance, direct handling and the best safety.

Square Tip
The square tip has the potential to make the tip surface area a little more effective and, if done correctly, less prone to unwanted distortion from steering forces. The risk of the square tip is that the canopy fabric can be less tightly controlled and can luff and flap more. Northhave paid particular attention to this issue and ensured a clean canopy shape in this area.

Tunable Bar Pressure:
The 2016 EVO features an adjustment in the back line bridle that permits the rider to opt for greater or lesser bar pressure. Low bar pressure reduces strain on arms and makes turn initiation easier, but gives less feedback about kite position and load condition. Higher bar pressure is a little more athletic and is often preferred by more experienced riders.

Bar Pressure and Turn Initiation:
A kite with low bar pressure often seems to require very little pressure for turn initiation. A kite with high bar pressure is the opposite. The 2016 EVO has slightly lower bar pressure than the 2014, and slightly easier turn initiation. This is something North didn't want to overdo because then the kite would fail to deliver good bar feedback.

Aramid Reinforcements:

For 2016 are the Aramid Reinforcement, added in highly reinforced exposed areas such as the Micro Batten pockets and the leading edge scuff pads. These reinforcements reduce wear from everyday use, and increase the durability and life of your kite.

5th Element Line with 4-Line Safety:
The North Evo 2016 can be flown with four or with five lines, the fifth line provides 100% depower and maximum safety even in high wind conditions.

Kook Proof Connectors:
These connectors prevent the number one cause of kite accidents by ensuring that the front lines cannot be attached to the back of the kite and back lines cannot be attached to the front.

Air Port Valve:

North Evo 2014 Water Relaunchable Kiteboarding Kite

In 2016, the Evo will be equipped with the brand new Air Port Valve. The valves unique construction has several advantages, but first and foremost it saves time setting up. The valve works with any conventional pump or compressor as it can be connected directly to the bayonet insert of the hose. Additionally, the air passage of the new valve makes it possible to pass four times more air than before. The valve is also suitable for both, inflation and deflation.

The deflation option is integrated, which means no external deflation pin is required. Deflation is simply activated by turning the blue wheel on the inside of the valve completely to the right. Hence loosing air when not wanted is not possible, as the valve is closed after deflation by turning the bayonet completely to the left before taking it off. A short sizzling noise of a very small amount of air escaping from the interspace when taking of the
bayonet is normal.

The new Air Port Valve can also be easily operated with neoprene gloves thanks to the large diameter. Due to its very flat construction, it also prevents line snag. The valve enables fatigue-proof inflation due to the bigger air passage. Even bigger kites will be inflated within seconds!

Self Rescue Handles:

These loops attached to the inside of the wingtips make it easier to hold the kite for body drag rescue.

Low-Drag High Pressure Ribs:
It's not true that all types and sizes of kite need to have as little aerodynamic drag as possible. However North like to control drag by putting it where they want it and elminating it where they don't want it.

To the end of elminating undesired drag North have created the lowest drag ribs available.

From the low profile and correct orientation of the seams to the small overall diameter and tiny, low turbulence rib ends, the North EVO 2016 ribs are designed to reduce undesirable skin friction and wake drag to a minimum .

Segmented Leading Edge:
For all heavily stressed areas, North canopies are manufactured from top quality 170g or 175g Dacron.

This material is equipped with the best possible breaking strain characteristics with the usual kite materials, and moreover, it will never delaminate.

Relaunch Bungies:

In order to make the relaunch easier and to avoid any possible line tangling, North have added Relaunch Bungies at the kite tips.

The bungies keep the lines flying slick against the inside of the leading edge, preventing any line going over the top of the kite during the relaunch.

Leading Edge Bridles:
The leading edge bridles creates the necessary stability for the North EVO's consistent and direct handling.

Depower Control Bar

North 2016 EVO Trust 5th Element Control Bar System:

North Kites 5th Element 2009 Bar with Lines

Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will all gain substantial advantages from the new North Trust Bar 5th Element system.

Safety - perform all moves with safety leash
Water Start - without swimming
Performance - increased performance due to wider wind range

The 5th Element will come already set up so there are no hassles on your first day and it doesn’t take any more effort to wind up or unwind them, and you don’t feel anything else but better performance when flying them.

All kites can be flown with the same bar, just the short line attached in the middle of the leading edge has to be adjusted to the different kite sizes. Instructions will be attached to all bars or upgrades.

Line Length Advisor:
Different styles of riding, different kite models or the kite size can be influencing factors that require different line length.

In order to further increase this synergy effect the 19 and 22 m lines come now on a medium bar (49 / 42 cm) and the 24, 27 and 30 m lines on a large bar (53 / 46 cm).

The bar is the riders’ first point of contact with the kite. In order to achieve a maximum in comfort of riding it is essential to match the kite and the riders’ style of riding to the correct line length.

19m (70% Handling / 30% Power)
Super fast and reactive tuning speeds, shorter lines are best for extreme freestyle and crazy kiteloops. They are also excellent for wave riding, where kite turning speed is important. Wakestyle riders like the close connection to the kite too. The disadvantage is you lose some of the low end power.

  • Fast and reactive turning
  • Extreme Freestyle, Wakestyle and Waves
  • Tight, super fast and hard kite loops

22m (60% Handling / 40% Power)
The favourite length for freestyle and waves! These 22m lines are still great for getting lots of speed from the kite, perfect for wave riding and freestyle. Not as extreme as the 19m lines, they still lose a bit of low end power.

  • Reactive turning
  • Fast Kite Loops
  • Great setup for freestyle riders
  • Best choice for waveriding

24m (50% Handling / 50% Power)
The best choice for an all round length, good turning speed combined with good power make 24m the perfect choice for a lot of riders. Great for freeride, waves and freestyle.

  • Most Versatile Length
  • Great for all-round freeriding
  • Good low end and a good turning speed
  • Most Versatile Length
  • High jumps as you can “load” the lines
  • The recommended size for a one bar quiver

27m (40% Handling / 60% Power)
The extra length means extra power, get a little more range out of your quiver by adding this bar with the longer lines. They are also great for jumping as you can really “load” the lines when you edge and send the kite back through the window.

  • Enormous Low End Power
  • Huge Jumps
  • Lots of Lift

30m (25% Handling / 75% Power )
The choice of the North Kiteboarding Race Team, longer lines mean even more power, but the kite turns at a slower rate. This suits racers looking for the ultimate in pull in the often gusty and light conditions they are faced with.

  • Perfect for light winds
  • Extra Power
  • North Kiteboarding Race Team Approved

The bar is your first point of contact with the kite, Iit is the connection between you and your kite and it is important to get it right. And it’s actually an easy formula: The shorter the lines, the more direct and faster the kite turns. The longer the lines, the more power you can generate out of them! Choose a North Trust Bar, and choose the right line set up for your style of riding.

North Dice 2014 Kite

Safety: The 5th Element line set permits anyone, from novice to pro, to easily and conveniently use a kite leash. The leash can be short and inconspicuous, or it can be a long handle-pass leash like the pros use. In either case, releasing the chickenloop quick-release while leashed-in causes the kite to depower immediately and totally and with no line tangles.

Whether you ride unhooked, spin, try a water relaunch for the first time or practice a handle pass, all maneuvers, including the latest tricks, can now be performed with the safety leash of the 5th Element.

As soon as you pull the Quick Release or let go of the bar it slips up the safety line. The kite is then completely depowered and comes down without twisting the lines.

One additional benefit of the 5th Element is that it makes dragging upwind to reach a lost board much easier.

North Dice 2014 Kite

When the kite is on the water after you crashed or let go of the bar, the 5th Element system allows you to relaunch without swimming

a) Keeping tension on the middle line, reload the chickeloop if necessary, and hook in if you want.
b) To get started again, use the middle line to pull the bar toward you.
c) If you pull the back lines simultaneously, the kite will slowly come off the water.
d) The harder you pull on the side of the bar, the faster and lower the kite will start in.
e) If you only pull gently, the kite will move as usual to the edge of the wind window for relaunch.
f) No unsafe pulls or drags. No more swimming!

North Dice 2014 Kite

Performance: The 5th Element stabilizes the kite’s arc and thus clearly increases performance. Enhanced profile stiffness brings considerable advantages in depowered situations and increases the kite’s wind range. As a result, the kite flies closer to the wind window and responds more directly to steering impulses.

While arc-shaped inflatable kites have a marvellous simplicity, they also have a tendency to change shape as the wind increases and decreases and as load goes from front lines to back lines or vice versa. While it's possible to control such unstable tendencies in conventional four-line kites, such control comes at a cost: more drag.

The 5th Element line set offers a low-drag solution to maintaining kite shape stability, thereby permitting higher performance in every respect.

5th Element-equipped kites have greater high end, greater range, and quicker turning.

Because of the better high end they also have better lift, which makes for higher jumps. Because low end power is in no way reduced by the 5th Element line set, such kites also have excellent hang time.

North have addressed the needs of every type of rider! Charlie Railton >>

The new North EVO is changing its position in the North range to be pitched between the Rebel and the Vegas under the categories of freeride/freestyle & Wave. Jaime Herraiz has had a lot of involvement with the development of this kite to ensure that it performs and it really does.

The build is North’s usual high standard with a new rib design that is triple stitched plus even more reinforcement for the tips, trailing and leading edge.

Again the North EVO can be used as a 4 or a 5 line kite. The 5th line has no function other than added safety (not the case on the Rebel). 5th line usage is a personal choice; North strongly recommend that it is used on all their kites for maximum safety. The North EVO gives you the choice to ride 4 lines if you surf large open beaches with reliable wind, or to opt for a 5 line bar setup if your local spots have more obstacles and are susceptible to gusty winds.

On the water the North EVO works well. As expected it’s got a great wind range and the bottom end is impressive. The bar pressure is lighter than last years kite and gives you good feedback as to what the kite is doing. I mentioned that the kite fits between the Rebel and the Vegas, this means that it has attributes of both. It is similar to the Rebel in that is has a larger wind range, meaning a 2-kite quiver is more viable but then its got characteristics of the Vegas such as working well unhooked, producing solid kiteloops and being super stable when you need it to be in those more technical tricks.

North have addressed the needs of every type of rider with their range of kites, the North EVO will answer the needs of many kitesurfers and could easily become the most popular kite in the range, if you are considering the Vegas and don’t want to stretch to a 3-kite quiver then this could be the tool but equally this could be your post IKO/BKSA beginner course kite.
