North Trust Bar 5th Element
2017 5-Line / 4-Line Depower Control Bar >>
Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will all gain substantial advantages from the new North Trust Bar 5th Element system.
- perform all moves with safety leash
The 5th Element will come already set up so there are no hassles on your first day and it doesn’t take any more effort to wind up or unwind them, and you don’t feel anything else but better performance when flying them.
All kites can be flown with the same bar, just
the short line attached in the middle of the leading edge has
to be adjusted to the different kite sizes. Instructions will
be attached to all bars or upgrades.
Safety: Whether you ride unhooked, spin, try a water relaunch for the first time or practice a handle pass, all manoeuvres, including the latest tricks, can now be performed with the safety leash of the 5th Element. As soon as you pull the Iron Heart or let go of the bar it slips up the safety line. The kite is then completely depowered and comes down without twisting the lines.
Waterstart: When the kite is on the water after you crashed or let go of the bar, the 5th Element system allows you to relaunch without swimming
a) Keeping tension on the middle line, reload the chickeloop if necessary, and hook in if you want.
b) To get started again, use the middle line to pull the bar toward you.
c) If you pull the back lines simultaneously, the kite will slowly come off the water.
d) The harder you pull on the side of the bar, the faster and lower the kite will start in.
e) If you only pull gently, the kite will move as usual to the edge of the wind window for relaunch.
f) No unsafe pulls or drags. No more swimming!
Line Length Advisor:
In order to further increase this synergy effect the 19 and 22 m lines come now on a medium bar (49 / 42 cm) and the 24, 27 and 30 m lines on a large bar (53 / 46 cm).
The bar is the riders’ first point of contact with the kite. In order to achieve a maximum in comfort of riding it is essential to match the kite and the riders’ style of riding to the correct line length.
19m (70% Handling / 30%
22m (60% Handling / 40%
24m (50% Handling
/ 50% Power)
27m (40% Handling
/ 60% Power)
30m (25% Handling / 75%
The bar is your first point of contact with the kite, Iit is the connection between you and your kite and it is important to get it right. And it’s actually an easy formula: The shorter the lines, the more direct and faster the kite turns. The longer the lines, the more power you can generate out of them! Choose a North Trust Bar, and choose the right line set up for your style of riding.

NORTH KITEBOARDING's Trust Bar 2017 5th Element Control Bar will completely change the way you kiteboard.
With the new Trust Bar 2017 5th Element, NORTH KITEBOARDING further enhances safety standards, performance and water relaunch and introduces revolutionary innovations.
Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will all gain substantial advantages from the new system.
For 2017, the entire bar has been completely re-designed, without losing proven features like the roto-head, the sliding stopper with stopper ball and adjustable winding posts. The small and lightweight vario cleat helps to adjust the Trust Bar in any situation quickly and easily. The new upgraded ergonomic bar grip improves comfort and all features of the 2017 Trust Bar are redefined with an aim on the highest functionality and easiest handling, even in challenging circumstances.
The seventh edition of North's tried and tested 5th Element Bar is possibly the most effective and trustworthy safety system on the market.
The North Iron Heart V requires minimal release forces and is not affected by harsh sand and saltwater conditions.
The double de-power line in combination with the Sliding Stopper and Stopper Ball ensures that the bar is always where you want it to be in all situations.
The small, lightweight Vario Cleat allows you to quickly and easily adjust it to your desired de-power stroke while the system automatically trims your lines to the perfect length. If the dangling trim line has ever interfered with your flow in the past, you can now forget about it focus on your riding: Simply Velcro the dangling portion to the stopper ball so it’s never in your way.
Riders of all skill levels, from newcomers to pros, will benefit from the simplicity and functionality of the new 2017 North 5th Element Bar Trust Bar and Iron Heart V.
Whether you ride unhooked, spin, try a water relaunch for the first time or practice a handle pass, all manoeuvres, including the latest tricks, can now be performed with the safety leash of the 5th Element. As soon as you pull the Iron Heart IV or let go of the bar it slides up the safety line. The kite is then completely de-powered and comes down without twisting the lines.
The 5th Element allows you to re-launch without having to swim towards the kite. From the nose down position, simply pull the 5th line towards you to get the kite to tip onto it‘s back while simultaneously pulling one back line. The kite will make it‘s way to the edge of the window and take off.
The 5th Element stabilizes the kite’s arc and thus clearly increases erformance. Enhanced profile stiffness brings considerable advantages in depowered situations and increases the kite’s wind range. As a result, the kite flies closer to the edge of the wind window and responds more directly to steering impulses.
Kites has reinforced attachment points at the leading edge and the 5th Element Bar is either attached to a single line or to a Y-shaped noseline with a predetermined length. This system allows you to use different kite sizes with the same bar without making further adjustments.
The Triple V-Connection converts an almost conventional four liner bar into the 5th Element Bar. The new Triple V construction has increased durability and less wear. The new stronger Dyneema lines are fed through a metal ring that reduces friction and wear. The power frontline splits into two frontlines that run to the kite’s right and left tips.
Internal Line System:
The 5th Element system has three lines coming through the newly designed bar hole. Two of them are the depower lines that end at the Vario Cleat, the depower system, and continue from there as the power frontline. The third line is our safety frontline to which you attach your safety leash. When you release the safety mechanism, the bar slips up along this line and completely depowers the kite.
Compatible on all 5-Line kite designs, such as Delta, C, Hybrid, and Bow Kites and all North Kiteboarding Rhino, Rebel, EVO, Fuse, Neo, Dyno and Vegas Kites.
Comes complete with 19m, 22m, 24m, 27m or 30m lines.
North Trust Quad 4-Line Control Bar:
The all-new Quad control bar also comes equipped with the new Iron Heart IV. The front line safety system works similar to a 5th Element by allowing the kite to fall to the water and lay de-powered on it’s back in perfect re-launch position. Although reliable in most situations, it does not offer the same level of safety of the 5th Element system.
Comes complete with 19m, 22m, 24m, 27m or 30m lines.
North 5th Element Trust Bar 2016 Bar Benefits:
North Kiteboarding Trust Bar 5th Element Control Bar Features:
North have completely redesigned the winding posts for the bar and they are loaded with new features! Utilizing a fully moulded fibreglass reinforced Polyamide construction, which offers an incredibly lightweight solution with increased stiffness. North have also integrated a new backline adjustment, which allows the rider to trim the rear lines as and when it is needed to do so. In addition to this there is moulded EVA cushioning to ensure maximum comfort for the rider.
Integrated EVA Floater
One for All Flip Flop:
The all-new moulded EVA floater is fully integrated into the winding posts to offer a seamless connection, which gives better protection to the lines and the rider.
For 2016 North have reworked Flip-Flop function, which is a lot easier to operate now. It allows you to switch between a 53cm and 46cm bar width (M/L bar) and 49 cm and 42cm bar width (S/M bar) with just one click. This makes the procedure of changing the bar set up far simpler.
The integration of the EVA floater also avoids line tangling and gives better overall stiffness between the bar and lines.
Free Sliding Stopper and Stopper Ball:
The Sliding Stopper and the Stopper Ball permit you to adjust the depower lines on the water. Particularly in light wind conditions you will be more comfortable if you do not have to constantly hold the weight of the bar.
It has two different settings for more and for less traction. To change the settings, all you need to do, is to take the ball of the depower lines, turn around the ball and reassemble it. The Sliding Stopper Ball also reduces wear on the depower lines.
Sticky Bar Coloured Grip:
This grip was exclusively developed for North to ensure a firm hold and perfect riding comfort. The new allover embossed grip, is exclusively developed for North Kiteboarding to ensure a firm hold and perfect riding comfort. The all over embossing gives you a softer feel of the EVA, but is still very durable. The solution is an even stickier grip, in all situations. For 2016 North have reduced the diameter of the bar in order to increase the thickness of the EVA bar grip. The result is a bar that has the same overall diameter but offers a lot more comfort to the rider.
The soft winder with protective rubber coating at the bar ends, reduces the risk of injuries and protects the lines. The separate rubber bungee prevents accidental unwinding.
Friction plastic Centre Hole:
The new developed shape of the plastic centre hole reduces the friction on the lines and realizes easy sheeting and less abrasion. Due to the new shape of the centre part, it is ensured that the grip can not be damaged by the iron heart or the stopper ball. At unhooked riding, the plasticl centre part is responsible for the repositioning of the Iron Heart V. The new exchangeable insert for the centre hole is made of plastic, to reduce wear on the depower line.
The new North Safety Leash is perfect for any type of kite and rider. This leash offers lowest release forces in any conditions. In emergency situations, the leash can be released through a safety mechanism. The leash is delivered with a new developed carabiner, holding loads up to 250kg. Just that quality makes the carabiner the ideal solution for the suicide mode of the iron heart. A neoprene sleeve with plastic slider avoids accidental hookings.
The Safety Leash has also been designed to offer more floatation, guaranteed protection and ease of handling. The moulded EVA construction covering the hook is softer and prevents lines from tangling; the hook itself can still be bent in two directions. The EVA cover can be pulled back for easy hooking in and out to the suicide ring at the chicken loop. Of course the end of the leash still offers a safety release where it is attached to the harness. Consequently you are still able to release the kite completely at any time.
North’s Vario Cleat offers an easy and precise way to control the kite’s power. The adjuster can be positioned anywhere on the depower line and allows you to customize the bar to your size and liking. The trim loop is attached to the counter piece at the stopper ball with a Velcro and doesn’t wrap around the center line during kiting.
North have also introduced a 5th line channel for the 5th line to run through, this reduces the risk of the 5th line getting tangled considerably. You can easily adjust the height of the Vario Cleat too, plus reduced it’s size to increase the depower area. The sliding stopper can be adjusted to suit personal preferences. Combined with the smaller Vario Cleat this accounts for 12% more depower area!
The new North Kiteboarding chickenloop can be released in emergency situations. The new design reduces release forces to less than 4kg at a load of 200kg, which makes the system easy to operate and reliable in any emergency situation.
The new and lighter design also facilitates fast and easy reassembling. It is very easy to find and can be operated either with the right or left hand. The futuristic design prevents the system from jamming and greatly facilitates reassembling.
After spins, the Roto Head offers you a simple and free back rotation of the lines.
This ensures to have a constant safety function in all situations. This invention again makes kiting a little bit more comfortable and safe.
Utilising a plastic construction, the plastic is extremely durable and offers many benefits.
There will no longer be any corrosion between the old aluminium head and the stainless steel pin.
North have also used swapped the old pin system for two grub screws to change the depower line, no need to hammer the old stainless steel pin out. Simply use an FCS Fin Key to remove the screws and change the depower line.
Positiong Iron Heart :
Due to its ergonomic design, the Iron Heart can be easily hooked in after unhooked tricks.
Low friction and a high quality metal hole complete the perfect picture.
The heart of the Iron Heart V is the reverse release pin and one of the keys of the intelligent release mechanism.
Unlike other safety systems, it hinges to the inside to protect your hands.
The incredibly low release forces are a direct result of the reverse release pin.
The entire system is easy to reassemble following a release.
Flop Chicken Stalk:
The Flip Flop Chicken Stalk is moveable into two positions with a digital on/off modus.
The Chicken loop has been totally reworked for 2016, using a new moulded construction, which is stiffer and increases the overall durability.
This new construction is warp resistant and dimensionally stable.
This makes it very easy to hook back in after unhooked tricks, as the loop can never get out of shape.
New molded chicken dick with a thicker end, which helps the rider avoid accidental unhooking.
The new construction used is also stronger and more durable.
Delivered with every bar, you have the choice between the standard safety mode and an easy adjustable suicide mode.
Attention, just the freeride modus delivers the 100% safety solution!
Only experienced riders with special needs should use this option.
We recommend to always use the standard safety mode.
Riders using the suicide mode must be aware of the consequences and are responsible for occurring damages!
The flying lines developed in cooperation with FSE Robline were a complete novelty when they were first introduced on the kite market. After three years of experience and thorough testing by the most demanding kiters, North Kiteboarding schools and teamriders know that they can always rely on these lines.
Conventional lines get their stiffness from a coating that is damaged by repeated folding. If a line is folded, the coating (wax) is extruded and the line will always fold in the same spot. To prevent this, we weave a Monofill into our lines that restores the original shape (Memory Effect) and ensures that the next time the line bends in a different spot.
If the line is only gently bent, it returns faster to its original shape and it becomes a little stiffer. This technology makes laying out the lines more comfortable and quicker. The increased breaking strength of 270 daN (approximately 270kg) is an added bonus. To ensure that the lines are attached correctly we use Monofill in different colors.
The one for me! Ken Hines
This is the one for me! If you own a 5-line kite, use this control bar and you will have comfort, control and the best safety system as well as the ability to customise it in so many ways!
The first noticeable difference with the 5th element control bar is the weight, metal parts have now been replaced by lighter weight materials and it really shows a difference. I'm quite shocked by how it make the flying experience better.
The bar addresses a few of the gripes I had with the previous incarnations, the first being that it is now really easy to use the rotating head of the iron heart to unspin the lines after a lot of rotations. Previously this was nearly impossible to do on the fly and the worry was that the 5 line would not move freely. They have also given the 5th (or mini 5th) a channel through the new vario cleat, meaning it can't get jammed in the cleat another winner for me!
So have you ever had to replace the de-power line in the trust bar before? Only an Allen key needed! The new removable bar insert looks as though it will be a lot kinder to the de-power line which should increase it's life also.
You have probably read about the clever new bar ends and the new way of changing the line lengths inside the bar ends. It is really easy to alter the bar width with the kite in the air, really useful if the wind picks up and you want a less reactive kite to work on a particular trick. I did even manage to change the line lengths with the kite sat on the water, no more pulling the floats to get the the adjustment knots.
This has to be the most engineered bar on the market, what else would you expect from North!
