Name:
Sly Jennings
Location:
Moved to north Devon Jan 2004
How did you get started in power
kiting:
A few of us were down croyde bay to do some surfing but the wind
was up and the surf was flat, There was a guy on the beach flying
a stack of 10ft flexi’s. I asked if I could have a go and
the rest as they say is history
What
equipment do you use:
Flexifoil Bullets, Flexifoil Blades, Ozone frenzy
Which
board/buggy do you use:
Dirtsurfer GP, Scrub Silver reef
What
have you been doing the past year:
Mainly experimenting with the Dirtsurfer and learning to Kitesurf.
What
plans do you have for this year:
Hoping to have a go at the two-wheeled land speed record
Get better at kite surfing
That way I get the best of both worlds:
Low tide = Dirtsurf
High tide = Kitesurf
May need a bigger car though!
Favourite
Boarding Spot:
Having just moved to north Devon I’m still trying new spots,
but at the moment it has to be Westward Ho!
What
is your most favourite piece of kit for power kiting:
The Dirtsurfer, Ozone Frenzy 9.5m– the de-power –
power-up system is great!
What kind of tricks do you like
to do:
My main love is speed runs but a well landed one-handed 360 is
hard to beat
What
surface do you prefer:
Hard sand with an on-shore wind
How
do you think the sport will grow:
Technology will advance the sport fast, now that the sport is
already growing more company’s will start getting involved
probably from the paragliding and surfing fields. The other area
that I think will grow is the competition area with hopefully
more coverage on mainstream TV.
What's
is your best session to date:
The first time I was going fast enough to overtake a guy on in
a buggy on the dirtsurfer, he looked that shocked he very nearly
wiped out!
Have
you received any injuries from power kiting:
Minor bumps and scraps except for way back in the early days before
I understood wind speeds I tried to fly a stack of 3-10ft flexi’s
in 15-18 mph gusty wind. Managed to dislocate my shoulder and
break two ribs, I now have the honour of being the first person
on record at my local hospital with a kite related injury
Anything
else you want to say:
If you are considering giving this sport a go, DO IT.
