By working with their own factories and ahandful of outside partners, O'Neill have found a way to reintroduce other material which can be used to make a variety of components and products normally built using first generation neoprene. O'Neill is excited to be at the forefront of this new program and it's efforts to reduce, re-use and recycle products that keep you in the water for longer!

100% Ultraflex RG8 - O'Neill's exclusive new neoprene offers the same flexibility and warmth of their Ultraflex DS material in a more environmentally friendly option.   Using Limestone based neoprene and recylced plastics on the inner and outer layers, the RG8 neoprene promises to take O'Neill to the next level for years to come!

How does a wetsuit work?
A wetsuit creates a barrier against the elements utilizing the insulating properties of closed cell neoprene.

 

Neoprene is a closed cell foam made up of thousands of tiny air bubbles known as cells.

 

The air within the cells creates an insulating barrier which slows down the conduction of heat and cold and allows body heat to be retained.

 

Neoprene:
The thickness of the neoprene utilized in a wetsuit will determine its warmth and flexibility.

 

A thick wetsuit provides a lot of insulation but can inhibit flexibility.

 

A thin wetsuit will be very flexible but can inhibit insulation.

 

The key is to get the right combination of warmth and flexibility so the wetsuit will not only keep you warm, but provide maximum flexibility as well.

 

What is a steamer wetsuit ?
A 'Steamer' is a wetsuit with sealed seams, usually achieved by blind stitching.

 

This stops the majority of cold water from re-entering the suit once your body has initially heated it up.

 

Winter wetsuits are steamers typically with a 5mm body and legs for warmth and 3mm arms for manoeuvrability.

The O'Neill Fit: O’Neill has the best fit in the industry. One of the most important factors in selling a wetsuit is fit.   If a wetsuit doesn’t fit right, it isn’t comfortable and won’t keep you warm. It should be comfortably snug all over.   If the suit fits too loose, there will be cold water entering the suit and you’ll never stay warm.   A suit that is too small or too big can cause rashing. O’Neill’s 50+ years of wetsuit design and engineering ensures an excellent fit.

I am extremely happy with this product, which was delivered on time and without hassle.

 

I am a keen windsurfer and this wetsuit provides all the warmth that I need in the winter months but not at the expense of reduced movement.

 

I upgraded from an old style wetsuit with a back zip and found the chest zip made a huge difference to the retention of heat.

 

This style is probably slightly more difficult to get on and off but in my opinion this is outweighed by its warmth. I would highly recommend.
