The Vegas 2013 particularly appeals to newschoolers and to riders who do not want to renounce on the conventional C-kite feeling but at the same time, retaining its freeride capabilities.

 

Compared to last years model North have tuned quite a lot on the 2013 Vegas, the quarter strut has been moved further out towards the wingtip to improve the low-end range of the kite. This has also helped North to create a more rigid tip to the kite, the concentration of struts in the tip area helps make the kite very responsive and direct in terms of bar feeling. North have also made the wingtips wider to improve steering and responsiveness. The 2013 North Vegas reinforces its legacy as an incredibly versatile C-shape kite, integrating uncompromised new-school/wake attributes with free-ride comfort. The key to the Vegas’ versatility lies in a simple adjustment on the kite’s wingtip, offering three varied settings with the quick switch of a knot. These settings have been tuned to offer three very distinct modes to suit your preferred riding style.

 

By tuning the kite you can create a few different set ups and allow it to suit different riding styles. On the frontlines are two settings; freestyle gives the rider more depower, more lift, precision kiteloops and very reactive steering. The wakestyle setting gives the rider more pop when unhooked, a longer “power delay” to allow easier handle passes and slightly less reactive steering so you can concentrate on the rails and kickers. The rear lines can be tuned to increase or decrease the turning speed of the kite to suit almost any rider.

 

Standard Free-Ride Setting:

The standard free-ride setting offers everything you would expect from a free-ride kite like loads of depower, responsive steering and predictable handling.

 

Freestyle Setting:

The second setting is ideal for taking your first steps into freestyle, offering noticeably harder bar pressure providing more accurate kite feedback and making steering slightly less responsive to practice unhooked tricks.

 

New School Setting:

The third option converts the Vegas into a fullblooded new-school / wake machine that sits deeper in the wind window and delivers consistent pull with a very limited de-power stroke. This is the preferred setting of our core freestyle team and allows you to do the most powerful kite-loops and offers the most explosive pop for powered new-school and wake tricks.

The Vegas delivers high de-power with the widest range of use although it’s a C-kite and gives you virtually no de-power for full-on powered wakestyle. The 2013 Vegas: Style and conviction without compromise.

 

Further development of the 5th element system, allowed North to develop a true C-kite with great stability and rock-solid power, combined with maximum safety and de-power abilities. Reduced canopy segments and special construction translates into smooth, intuitive and playful turning characteristics that are easily recognized in kite loops where the kite climbs back up overhead for controlled landings.

 

All sizes offer an incredibly similar feeling in both turning speed and bar load, requiring nearly no adjustment time when switching kite sizes.

Two trim options allow you to set up your Vegas in either “Classic” or “New-school” modes. Classic freestyle mode provides high de-power and gives you the most versatile range for doing big jumps, un-hooked freestyle and even venturing into the surf. New-school mode gives you less de-power, extreme stability while unhooking and less sensitive bar reaction for doing loaded power moves.

 

5th line Freestyle High Depower Classic Setting: Plenty of de-power and the classic Vegas feel you‘ve come to expect! This setting offers the most versatility and is ideal for free/wave riding, jumping and un-hooking.

 

5th line Freestyle / Newschool: Dedicated new-school feel, little to no de-power, extremely steady when unhooked and less sensitive to bar input for loaded power moves. All the safety and relaunch benefits of the 5th Element.

 

Front / Backline Power Distribution: When riding with full power in the Freestyle mode, the forces on the lines are split into 60 % on the front lines and 40 % on the back lines. Therefore, less steering impulse is needed to make the kite turn quickly. When riding with full power in the New School mode, the forces on the lines are split into 75 % on the front lines and 25 % on the back lines. This makes the back lines less sensitive, causing less movement while you are throwing an unhooked trick. More steering impulse is required to get the same turning as that of a Vegas in Freestyle mode.

 

Tip Turning Area:
In Freestyle mode the tip has a wider surface affected by the rider’s bar input. Therefore, the kite is much more sensitive and reactive in steering. In New School mode, a smaller surface of the tip is affected. More bar input is required for quick steering reaction. More bar stability means the kite will not “rise up” when you unhook making it easier to throw mind-blowing New School tricks.

Depower Behaviour:
With the New School set up the Vegas 2013 still retains some Depower but becomes less sensitive to bar sheeting and steering making it ideal for unhooking.

 

North have completely re-worked the Vegas 2013 to cover a wider range of conditions and riding styles than ever before! A slightly lower aspect ratio and wider wing tips means very constant pull, extremely tight kite loops and improved low end grunt to please the C-kite lover in you.

New Cam Battens >

The new CamBattens give the kite two key advantages: Lower drag at normal angles of attack and better profile stability at low angles of attack! At normal angles of attack, the CamBattens keep the shape smooth and stable along the front part of the canopy. Aerodynamic theory tells us that this is the most important part of the profile for generating power with low drag.

 

As you let the bar out to de-power, the wind tries to collapse the front part of the canopy and push the kite back. CamBattens resist this by keeping a full, stable shape near the leading edge, allowing the kite to fly at lower angles of attack for more depower.

 

Combine the CamBattens with Trim Tips, the new tip geometry lets the kite tilt even farther, and de-power to the maximum.

 

All of this gives the VEGAS 2013 a very direct feel on the bar, better low end performance due to reduced drag, and a much wider wind range. On the water you will notice that the wind just seems a lot smoother, with less holes and gusts.

This simple yet high performing kite can be used with any 5th line control bar providing the depower line is more than 45cm long.

North 04/05 5th Element Control Bars can be used but upgrading to the Iron Heart Chicken Loop is recommended.

 

The Difference between Vegas 2013 V Vegas 2013:

The Vegas 2013 is an evolution of the 2013 model. It was really essential to keep the basic characteristics of the 2013 model. Like a VW Golf VI is the best in his class being an evolvement of the Golf V, North also changed a lot of small things without loosing the typical Vegas gene.

 

The most important and most challenging innovation is the new Technoforce D2 material. This especially for North Kiteboarding developed double rip stop material was introduced with the Fuse and is now used in any kites of North Kiteboarding. Flying and handling characteristics are changed a lot so the kites have been finetuned a lot to fulfil the expectations of the test crews.

 

The stiffness of the D2 is way higher then at common materials and tensions in the kite can be used to improve the handling and the performance of a kite. This was a main reason for being able to change the profile in the centre and the tension on the trailing edge. The result is a more powerful and more constant pop.

 

Unhooked tricks can be done easier because the kite offers a more constant line tension. Handling and feedback of the kite are finetuned and enables to have enormous control of your kite.

 

The sizes 5, 7 and 9 offer a second brake line attachment, which is slowing down the turning speed of the kite.

 

The North Vegas is probably the most sold C-kite on the kite market ever. The unique fan community is curious and thankful for continuity in development. If major changes would be done, it could happen that some tricks would have to be nearly learned again. So there’s a small and gentle way of optimizing the Vegas. Which of course means, you’ll get a better kite in any case summa sumarum. There are loads of parameters, which can be changed in different positive directions.

 

It’s especially the profile and the canopy tension which could be redefined. Both in combination are responsible for the subjective handling, hard or soft bar pressure and steering forces and linear or progressive steering impulses.

 

A major point was to further develop the Vegas for all team riders all over the world, not losing the focus on the Vegas fan community. The result is a perfect kite for all new school tricks, which fascinating potential for all other disciplines. But especially the sizes 5 to 8qm are perfectly suited to the needs of freestyle rockers. This time, the difference between the setting new school and freeride is as different as two kites could be. Even under hardest conditions, especially the smallest sizes are super stable, precise and predictable, especially with the new school setting, ideal to push the limits in all conditions. Possible became these refinements through different profiles and tension of the canopy material and a completely new positioning of the adjustment points. Maybe the greatest strength of the Vegas is these days it’s versatility. Due to the separation of Freeride and Newschool, the Vegas shows two completely different faces, without being too extreme in one or the other direction. Grown up over the years, the name Vegas implants already a special myth in the brain of the rider, still surprises every year with new gimmicks and performance advancements.

Depower Control Bar

North 5th Element Control Bar:

Riders of all levels, from pros to newcomers, will all gain substantial advantages from the new 5th Element system.   Safety - perform all moves with safety leash Water Start - without swimming Performance - increased performance due to wider wind range   The 5th Element will come already set up so there are no hassles on your first day and it doesn’t take any more effort to wind up or unwind them, and you don’t feel anything else but better performance when flying them.   All kites can be flown with the same bar, just the short line attached in the middle of the leading edge has to be adjusted to the different kite sizes. Instructions will be attached to all bars or upgrades.

Safety: The 5th Element line set permits anyone, from novice to pro, to easily and conveniently use a kite leash. The leash can be short and inconspicuous, or it can be a long handle-pass leash like the pros use. In either case, releasing the chickenloop quick-release while leashed-in causes the kite to depower immediately and totally and with no line tangles.   Whether you ride unhooked, spin, try a water relaunch for the first time or practice a handle pass, all maneuvers, including the latest tricks, can now be performed with the safety leash of the 5th Element.   As soon as you pull the Quick Release or let go of the bar it slips up the safety line. The kite is then completely depowered and comes down without twisting the lines. One additional benefit of the 5th Element is that it makes dragging upwind to reach a lost board much easier.

Waterstart: When the kite is on the water after you crashed or let go of the bar, the 5th Element system allows you to relaunch without swimming a) Keeping tension on the middle line, reload the chickeloop if necessary, and hook in if you want. b) To get started again, use the middle line to pull the bar toward you. c) If you pull the back lines simultaneously, the kite will slowly come off the water. d) The harder you pull on the side of the bar, the faster and lower the kite will start in. e) If you only pull gently, the kite will move as usual to the edge of the wind window for relaunch. f) No unsafe pulls or drags. No more swimming!

Performance: The 5th Element stabilizes the kite’s arc and thus clearly increases performance. Enhanced profile stiffness brings considerable advantages in depowered situations and increases the kite’s wind range. As a result, the kite flies closer to the wind window and responds more directly to steering impulses.   While arc-shaped inflatable kites have a marvellous simplicity, they also have a tendency to change shape as the wind increases and decreases and as load goes from front lines to back lines or vice versa. While it's possible to control such unstable tendencies in conventional four-line kites, such control comes at a cost: more drag.   The 5th Element line set offers a low-drag solution to maintaining kite shape stability, thereby permitting higher performance in every respect. 5th Element-equipped kites have greater high end, greater range, and quicker turning.   Because of the better high end they also have better lift, which makes for higher jumps. Because low end power is in no way reduced by the 5th Element line set, such kites also have excellent hang time.
