- Asymmetrical Panel
Design
- Inside Jersey Completely
Made of Recycled Polyester
- K-Type Neoprene:
This
shock absorbing neoprene type is used for the ION crash
padz sections in the wetsuit to reach a maximum of protection
in stress areas.
- Seal
Tite Wrists:
Equipped with rubber stripes
at the wrists to reduce the chance of the wrists riding
up as you raise your arms. The tighter and sealed fit also
avoids water rushing into your arms.
- S-Type
Neoprene:
Completely
made of Sheico’s S-Type neoprene which is one of the
most elastic neoprene types on the market. It’s also
very warm and lightweight due to its specific cell structure.
- Limestone Neoprene:
Super-Friendly to the environment. ION
have retreated from the oil based neoprene production process.
Instead, ION use a process which relies on Limestone as
a raw material. Limestone largely consists of calcium carbide,
which is the main ingredient for all types of neoprene.
Calcium carbide is then mixed together with other components
to create specific neoprene densities and structures to
serve the needs of the designers.
- S-Seal
Liquid Seams:
Highly elastic liquid seam sealing glue for outstanding
water sealing and even greater bomb proof tearing strength
of our glued blind-stitched seams.
- Fully Glued
Blind-Stitch Water Sealing:
The edges of the neoprene panels are covered
with a highly adhesive, UV resistant contact glue which
needs to dry for a few minutes. Then the glue is applied
a second time to make it more sticky. Once the corresponding
parts of the neoprene edges are put together by hand and
then firmly squeezed with an electric pressing tool cm by
cm to achieve the high tearing strength, the seams are stitched
on the inside with a special blind-stitch sewing machine.
A curved needle pokes through the neoprene layer and applies
an elastic seam on the outside. By using this technique,
the seam is highly tear proof, elastic and completely watertight
and provides insulation and comfort.
- Water Gate
Plus Batwing Panel:
Additional
cuff extension on the batwing panel worn over the head for
best waterproofness.
- Gate Keeper Easy
Entry:
A
Velcro patch on the upper part of the batwing makes it
possible to fix the batwing on the neck closure. This
prevents the Water Gate back panel from rolling up inside
and helps you grabbing it without the help of an assisting
buddy. The Velcro patches of the batwing and neck closure
are now provided with a red label, so you can easily see
how to close it.
- Seam Reinforcements:
Crucial stress points are
reinforced either with MelcoTape on the inside or rubber
logo patches on the outside.
- Crash Padz Protection
Panels on Shin:
Crash Padz on the shin to
avoid injuries when crashing on the board edge or fin. Each
Crash Pad consists of 3mm K-Type neoprene stitched on the
inside. This harder neoprene absorbs any impact.
- Velcro Fix Neck:
A
small Velcro patch on the outside of the closure flap can
quickly be fixed on the leg open for easy entry or exit.
- Drainholes for
water release - Water which
enters through the back
zipper can leak out easily and keep the back area dry. These
holes are also in the calves which prevent any water from
getting stuck in the legs like a bubble.
- Detachable Velcro
Leg Loops:
For
an even tighter seal. If needed the velcro loop avoids any
intrusion of water by perfect adjustment. In the unlikely
case that the loop releases on the water it can not get
lost due to its unique construction.
- Supratex reinforcement
on the knees:
Protection panels on the
knees with flex zones for bending and highest abrasion resistance.
- Double Lined Crotch
Panel:
Equipped
with a double lined crotch panel, to avoid abrasion from
leg straps of seat harnesses. Equipped with a special hexagon
coating to avoid windchill at the crotch area.
- Sunglasses Loop:
Small webbing loop on the neck of the wetsuit to attach
your sunglasses. A great feature when in choppy conditions.
- Contour Cut:
To improve mobility and comfort, all ion wetsuits now come
with a contour cut. It enhances the flexibility in the collar,
wrist, ellbow, instep and the hollow of the knee.
- Riot Sublimination
Artist Print (2011 Version only)
- Ghost Print
on Leg Appears when in Water (2011 Version only)
- 5mm Body / Arms
/ Legs
How does a wetsuit
work?
A wetsuit creates a barrier against the elements utilizing
the insulating properties of closed cell neoprene.
Neoprene is a closed cell foam made up of
thousands of tiny air bubbles known as cells.
The air within the cells creates an insulating
barrier which slows down the conduction of heat and cold and
allows body heat to be retained.
Neoprene:
The thickness of the neoprene utilized in a wetsuit will determine
its warmth and flexibility.
A thick wetsuit provides a lot of insulation
but can inhibit flexibility.
A thin wetsuit will be very flexible but can
inhibit insulation.
The key is to get the right combination of
warmth and flexibility so the wetsuit will not only keep you
warm, but provide maximum flexibility as well.
What is a steamer
wetsuit ?
A 'Steamer' is a wetsuit with sealed seams, usually achieved
by blind stitching.
This stops the majority of cold water from
re-entering the suit once your body has initially heated it
up.
Winter wetsuits are steamers typically with
a 5mm body and legs for warmth and 3mm arms for manoeuvrability.
